logoThe Christian Church of Anchorage

The Christian Church of Anchorage is an independent congregation of believers, based in Anchorage, Alaska. We are committed to helping you come to Christ, grow in Christ, and advance His kingdom.

Becoming a Member of CCA

heartPrerequisites: There is only one biblical requirement to becoming a member of Christ's church: A person must receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

This means putting one's faith in Jesus as God's one and only son, repenting of past and present wrongs, confessing Christ, being baptized by immersion into Jesus Christ, and surrendering to Him. An opportunity is given at the close of each worship service to step forward and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior and become a member of Christ's church at CCA.

daisyTransfer of Membership: You can also transfer your membership to this local congregation if you are already a baptized believer, by stepping forward and making that desire known. In addition to the Sunday worship opportunity, the elders are available to speak with you in person about becoming a member at any time.

handshakeCommitment: Although there is only one requirement to becoming a member of the Christian Church of Anchorage, there is more to becoming a participating member. Church membership has always been about commitment. Church membership involves three basic commitments: a commitment to Jesus Christ, a commitment to other Christians, and a commitment to Christian living. When you decide to become a participating member of CCA, you are doing more than adding your name to the church database; you are committing to discipleship lived out in community.

Our Beliefs

Beliefs should be founded upon a reliable authority;
Here is what the Bible says about the following areas:

The Bible

The Bible is the infallible Word of God and the standard for our faith and conduct. “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
(2 Tim. 3:16-17).  The Bible is our authority.

God

God has eternally existed in three persons: Father, Son & Holy Spirit. God is the creator of the entire universe and the authority over life. Because of His compelling love, God sent Jesus Christ into the world to save mankind, through His atoning death on the cross. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Gen.1:1) "He who receives me receives the one who sent me.” (said Jesus in Matt. 10:40)

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ in the flesh was both God and man. He was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life. He revealed the mind of God in his teachings and performed miracles exactly as described in the Bible. He was crucified, died as a penalty for our sins, and was raised from the dead, bodily on the third day. He is the head of the church and intercedes for believers. He is coming again to this earth at a time which only God knows. "I am going to prepare a place for you… I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:2-3)

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit lives within every Christian. He guides, instructs, transforms and empowers believers for godly living and service. The Holy Spirit living within Christians is God's pledge and seal of our salvation. A Christian grows in spiritual maturity through obedience to the Word of God by the indwelling Spirit. “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- the Spirit of truth… he lives with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17).

Salvation

Our relationship with God has been broken by our sin. ”For all of sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Rom. 3:23) Salvation is achieved only by the grace of God, not our own efforts. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Eph. 2:8-9) All are invited by God to accept His free gift of grace through Jesus Christ. A repentant life, a confession of Christ's lordship over our lives, and baptism by immersion are primary responses of our faith as modeled in the New Testament. Baptism is for the remission of sins and for the gift of the Holy Spirit. “When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said … "Brothers, what shall we do?"… "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off" (Acts 2:37-39)

Living as a Christian

Jesus calls us to follow Him, to allow the Holy Spirit to re-create us to a likeness of Himself, and to serve Him by serving His church and His world. “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son” (Rom.8:29) “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” (Philemon 6) “And let our people also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, that they may not be unfruitful.” (Titus 3:14)

Communion

We invite all believers to participate with us in remembrance of Christ's sacrifice on the cross, and in dedication of our lives to Him. Communion is served every time we meet as a congregation, following the example of the church in the New Testament. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Acts 2:42)

Becoming a Christian

Jesus replied:  "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him, he who does not love me will not obey my teaching." (John 14:23-24)
